Elijah Valdez
Elijah Valdez is a dedicated advocate and community leader who brings a wealth of experience and passion to his role as Executive Director of the Deaf Culture Center of New Mexico. A proud Deaf individual who grew up in the hearing community, Elijah bridges diverse lived experiences to foster understanding and inclusion. Elijah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of New Mexico and a Master of Arts in Social Justice and Human Rights from Arizona State University. His academic and professional journey has been deeply rooted in social justice, beginning his career as a community organizer and expanding into nonprofit leadership. With a commitment to building community and increasing access to resources, Elijah strives to create a more equitable world for all. Originally from Oklahoma, Elijah moved to New Mexico in 2015 and has embraced the state’s rich culture and natural beauty. In addition to his professional endeavors, Elijah coaches youth soccer, finding joy in mentoring young players and staying active. He is also an avid adventurer who enjoys exploring New Mexico’s mountains and fostering meaningful connections. Elijah’s leadership at the Deaf Culture Center reflects his dedication to advocacy, his passion for celebrating Deaf culture, and his unwavering belief in the power of community.

Lisa McNiven
Lisa McNiven, MPA, is the Deputy Director of the New Mexico Governor's Commission on Disability (GCD), specializing in Disability Awareness, Emergency Preparedness, and Public Policy. Projects include: Statewide Accessibility Emergency Preparedness Networking project and the Affordable and Accessible Housing Project. Lisa has 19 years at GCD, 7 years as a Disability Specialist.
Lisa is Deaf and holds a BA in Psychology from Gallaudet University and an MPA from the University of New Mexico.
Lisa has volunteered her time with DCCNM for 30 years and has multiple awards for her work.
